Daedalus R10 Update

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

StrmnNrmn’s got an update up on his blog regarding R10. According to his entry, he intends to keep his promise on releasing Daedalus R10 by the end of March. And with only but a night to go before we officially bid goodbye to March, we’re thinking we could find R10 up and about by tomorrow. Hopefully.

Anyhow, StrmnNrmn says that R10 will be smaller than R9. However, you’ll be sure to find some great improvements, such as an approximate 10 to 15% speedup, frameskip, framerate limiting and stick deadzone tuning, and various small bugfixes. He says that he’s giving himself until Sunday afternoon to have everything readied at the latest.

Important to note also from this entry is that StrmnNrmn has said that the Expansion Pak support feature might not get to be included in R10. He says that although he’s fixed that bug that’s been keeping it from working, the obstacle now are the various memory issues it causes when enabled. And between delaying R10’s release and forcing the Expansion Pak support,he’d rather have a go at R10 and disable the Pak support for now. Then he’ll just make up for it by releasing R11 early.

So there. That’s all the update there is for now. But keep it locked right here, cos we’re sure updates will be trickling in quick on StrmnNrmn’s update pretty fast.

Inside the PSP dev kit

Ever wanted to know what a PSP development kit looks like on the inside? Now you can! A Japanese blogger has dismantled a prototype to show its innards. Of course, all computer guts look the same to me: maybe one of our more technically savvy readers can explain what’s so unique about these parts?

Fans get their wish: ECW coming to SmackDown vs Raw 2008

A while back, I asked what readers wanted to see from SmackDown vs Raw 2008. One of the most requested additions was that of ECW wrestlers. Well, either someone was listening or they think just like PSP Fanboy readers. THQ is saying ECW will have a “significant” presence in this year’s wrestler. ECW superstars, arenas and luckily weapons will be in the game. On the gameplay front, THQ said “realism and strategy are at the forefront”. There will be a new submission system, new rosters, more interaction areas, more outside the ring action, new online community additions, and finally a combined season and general manager mode.

Sounds like this will be the best WWE game yet!

The battle continues: Firmware 3.30 decrypted

PSP home

Once again, Team C+D has decrypted Sony’s latest firmware. Although this doesn’t provide anything tangible for end users, this is a crucial first step in creating new custom firmware. While the decryption was expected, the poem written by the team was not:

3.30 Decrypter!
* From Team Create+Destroy.. *

Some thought we failed - or had disappeared,
But $ony beware - your last hour is near.
In spite protections and multiple locks,
In spite busy lifes and - unwashed - socks,
For you to enjoy but for $ony to fear,
3.30 decrypter is ready, so cheer!

Why do these people seem to hate Sony? They’ve made an impressive piece of hardware for us to enjoy, yet somehow that’s seen as an evil thing? Regardless, 3.30 has been decrypted: feel free to celebrate/mourn in however way you choose. Except to see 3.30 OE soon. :)

Wishlist: Ten changes to the PSP

We love the PSP. But it’s not perfect, is it? Certainly, there are a few things that could be changed. Tech Digest has a wishlist with ten suggestions to Sony. Do you agree with some, or all, of them?

- No more UMDs: “faster load times, the increased battery life and the dramatically reduced risk of PSP shuriken injury.”

- Hard drive, please: “it is high time we thought beyond the limitations of what the Memory Stick format has to offer.”

- Better Wi-Fi: “let’s up the ante with faster wireless connectivity. Because 802.11b was like totally 2005.”

Craaazy Crazy Taxi interview

1UP interviewed Kenji Kanno, the Chief Game Design Manager of the upcoming Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars. Amazingly, the interview doesn’t really ask many questions about the PSP game. Instead, it focuses on general industry and Crazy Taxi series questions. When asked about the most important part about the evolution of the series, Kanno answered, “I wouldn’t use the word ‘evolution’ for this series because basically the whole point of the game is to have a lot of fun in a short period of time.”

Sounds like the perfect kind of game for a portable!
